Moved feeds to Feedburner

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Finally got around to signing up to Feedburner, and moving my feeds, it was something I had been meaning to do for a while.

In the end it was a painful process, with a plugin doing the magic on the Wordpress end.

So, to my faithful reader, please feel free to re-syndicate my content again via the new feed!

Here are the links:

Many thanks, and apologies for the inconvenience!

Web-based cartography

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

This is an interesting article (for anyone with an interest in maps!)

I’ve got Dad to thank for that!

It talks about how the internet is changing the way we think and use maps and map-based interaction.

I know I couldn’t imagine going back to a time without google maps.

How to load Web site faster in Mozilla Firefox

Monday, November 20th, 2006

The title says it all!

I guess this applies to any install of Firefox, not just a linux version. Check it out, mine was almost unusable before making these changes. Begs the question why the settings weren’t defaults….?

Update:

Following a little more digging, also found these quite useful:

Looking for an RSS reader

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

I have been looking into my options for an RSS reader lately, and to be honest have been struggling.

Today I came across a series of posts from Martin Belam’s blog about his first impressions using Rojo. His thoughts were enough for me to sign up and give this a go. I will try to post some of my own impressions as I get familiar, and some comparisions with other rss readers I have tried.

BTW, Martin’s blog is a good read, particularly if like me you are a regular reader of the bbc website.

VMWare

Tuesday, February 28th, 2006

The vibes coming out of VMWare at the moment are great. For those of you non-techy, you may want to skip this entry, but before you do, you might want to check out their Browser Appliance which runs in the free VMWare Player. This is just a great way to try out new software safely.

I am seriously going to consider running Ubuntu linux under VMWare Server in order to help me get to grips with it, not to mention some of the applications that are available via the community center and whatever may come out of the VMware Ultimate Virtual Appliance Challenge.

Looking foward to posting more on this. Anyone out there given it a go?

Skype 2.0

Wednesday, January 18th, 2006

I have just upgraded to Skype 2.0 and made my first SkypeOut call.

This is not a product review, but the sound quality on both ends was excellent, and a 22 minute call from Spain to the UK cost me less than €0.40! Nice!

I know Skype has its critics, regarding proprietry standards and the like, but it just works. Well! More than can be said for a lot of software that costs a hell of a lot more (mentioning no names!).

Going offline….

Saturday, November 5th, 2005

This could be the last update here for the next couple of weeks, as we are finally moving house! It will al just depend on when the new phone line and adsl get put in. I’m hoping quickly!

So, I’ll see you when I’m back online and let you know what life is like without email, internet etc…

Scarey thoughts….!!

In the meantime, off to pack the last boxes and pick up the mop….again!
